I believe that fashion is in trouble with this economic crises we are in. I think that the home fashion retail is going to be affected by these hard times more then any other fashion retail. In order for home fashion to be sold people are going to have to buy houses. Well with the way the housing market is going right now people are not willing to sell their houses. If somebody tries to sell their house at this time they are not going to be nearly as much as they are wanting out of it or even what it is worth. Therefor even if somebody is selling and buying a house they are not going to get the kind of money they need out of the house so then they are not going to have any extra spending money to decorate the new house with. I know that all of the different fashion retails are being affected by this economic crises as well as everybody else, I just think that the home fashion retail is going to get hit the hardest.
Also, companies are not able to afford to advertise their merchandise like they use too. For instance today in class we talked about how this past months of Voge magazine was the thinest edition ever. This is because people are not buying so therefor they cannot afford to advertise as much as they use to. Advertising is a big part of making sells in the company and if you cant afford to advertise then the likey hood of your company doing well is very slim.

speaker
I LOVED the speaker we had today. She was so upbeat and informative. She really put a lot of emphasis on how important it is to get an internship. She explained to us that because of the internship she had is what made her get the job that she has today. The internship that she did was at the coliseum an that is where she learned graphic design. She also explained to us that it is really important to get contacts. Its all about who you know in the fashion industry. She also told us that we should always have a resume on hand to give out. You never know who you might come in contact with day to day. About what she does. She explained a little bit about how a print is made onto a fabric. People send her either drawings, paintings, cut and paste, ect and they can take that and make it a print on fabric, which I found very interesting. Also, when she talked about how she worked in the quilt industry I was thinking to myself how boring! Quits are anything but that! She showed us some really fun and cute quilts and that quilt fabric can be made into much more things other then a quilt. She showed us really great curtains and apron that she had made. I never really thought about how important it is so learn graphic design until she came and talked to us. I know that graphic design is something i want to look into learning. She is also the person that does the blogs for her company. She is in charge of the whole blog all because of her graphic design background. She was a great speaker and really made me more interested in this career whereas I was on the fence about it before she came and spoke with us.

sweatshops
I am pro sweatshops. I do not agree with the conditions that the workers have to work in by any means. They no don't get paid nearly enough and it is really sad to see the conditions they have to work with. The reason why I am for sweatshops is because it gives people an opportunity to provide for their family. People working in sweatshops probably would not be able to get a job else where. Even though they are making about two dollars an hour that is still enough for the family to get by. It also gives a chance for the other family members to go to school. Also, the sweatshops keeps them out of trouble. They could be on the streets doing prostitution but they are working hard to provided for their family's.

design
I am not a designer but if I could draw up my own design I would design my wedding dress. I would have a all white dress. It would have a small train with lace on top of the fabric thats a flower print. It would be a tub top with at the top of the dress a one inch thick silk fabric going around the bust. It would have a small amount of beading done to the stomach area just to help draw more attention to the dress. The beading will also be a flower pattern but very lightly done. The bottome of the dress will be a little flowy not too fluffy. It would be a simple but very classy and elegant at the same time.

Ethnic influences
There are many ethnic influences on fashion. For instance Gucci fall 2008 line is totally inspired from the gypsy look. Gucci's line consist of the busy patterns throughout the whole line. It also has the lose fabric belts with almost every outfit to tie the whole outfit together. This line is very popular with the critics.
Africa is also a big influence. This look mostley consist of long flowy dress with sleeves. People seem to love the baggy look now.
Indan jewerly is also in. People love the colorfull bead look. It can be very dramatic drawing attention straight to the jewerly or it can be more suddle with duller colors with less bead work.

New York Fashion Week
Herve Leger spring 2009 line was brilliant. His swimsuit wear was defiantly 100% original. This line of swimsuits I think could be described as slashed up. Your normal bikini that you typically see every year at the beach is not in this year! These swimsuits have line of fabric connecting from the bottom of the suit to the top and some are zig zag slashes across the stomach.
I think that these swimsuits are great because they are not your typically bikini where all of your midriff has to hang out. If you have some trouble areas on your stomach then these swimsuits are perfect! If you have some love handles or if you have a little bit of stomach fat in the front these swimsuits can help hide it. I must say I am so excited about this line coming out this spring. I will defiantly be buying one of these swimsuits for myself!
All the reviews I have read about Herve Leger spring line has been great. Everybody seems to love his new fun and unique style of swimsuits. The reviews said they believe that these swimsuits are going to be a huge seller this spring.
William Rast spring 2009 collection did not go as well as Legers. The reviews said that his collection looked a little redneckish, which I agree. I did not see anything from this collection that I would wear. Everything was jean shorts, forest boots, and even camo coats. I do not think that this spring line is fashionable at all.

organic and enviromental friendly
Ramie is a environmental friendly fiber. Ramie is also known as grasscloth. This fiber is irregular fiber, long, lustrous, and fine. Ramie is more environmental friendly then both cotton and flax. Ramie is also a good fiber because it is fast growing and it can be harvest year around every 60 days.
Ramie is strong and abrasion resistant but also brittle with low elasticity. It has poor resiliency. Also, ramie is stiff and rough but it has good absorbency. This fiber may not be 100 % what you would want your clothing to be made out of but its one of the best fibers grown that is environmental friendly and can be grown organically.
This fiber has been around for about 6000 years. Ramie is produced in China, Philippines, and Brazil.
